CAP Public Policy Committee
The Board of Directors’ Public Policy Committee is charged with monitoring HIV/AIDS policy issues on Federal, State and local levels to ensure CAP’s position is heard. The Public Policy Committee works very closely with the Volunteer Resources, Education and Advocacy Department to disseminate information and educate the public on issues that may affect the HIV/AIDS community. This is a Statewide Coalition comprised of AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) throughout Oregon, whose mission is to provide services, prevention, and advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the Coalition is to provide a cohesive statewide voice to public policy issues on HIV/AIDS. The statewide coalition / Public Policy Committee includes:
- Cascade AIDS Project
- HIV Alliance
- Our House of Portland
- HIV Day Center
- Partnership Project
- Coastal AIDS Network (CAN)
- Valley AIDS Information Network(VAIN)
- Lifelong AIDS Alliance
Some of the activities coordinated through the Public Policy Committee include:
- Lobbying
Encourages elected officials to adopt sound legislation, policy and funding on the national, state and local levels. - Public Policy
Advocates for sound HIV policy and practices in government agencies, the workplace, schools and prisons. - Education
Provides information about HIV to elected and appointed policy makers and community leaders to ensure informed decisions. - International Projects
Advocate for global HIV issues and needs in developing and third-world countries.
